About Intarsia Art

Instead of using dictionary definitions of Intarsia, we would like to create our own.

Intarsia - the experience of merging Nature's beauty with human ingenuity; finding the perfect combination of woods to express an object or a moment in time; a three- dimensional perspective of the world using natural colored and varied woods; painting with wood

If Intarsia kits are the heart of Woodworking Plus, finished pieces of Intarsia art are the soul.

Mike Mathieu, artist of Woodworking Plus and lover of wood, begins by envisioning an object or a moment in time, such as his idyllic Sunset Valley, where Man and Nature exist in harmony. Then he transfers this image to paper, creates a detailed pattern, and goes to work making his imagination become real.

The end results of Mike's imagination are these beautiful pieces of art - Sunset Valley, Chariot, Mabry Mill, The Portland Head Lighthouse, Golden Retriever, Mallard, the four Classic Cars and the Jewelry Boxes.
